SPEEDING IN THE PARISH

Wokefield Parish Council have been attempting to have speed limits reduced at key points in the Parish where there are histories of accidents.

 In particular:  on Goring Lane by the Old Bell Pub; the Goodboys/Palmer's Lane crossroads; the junction with James Lane; the junction with Mann's Hill and the Hollybush Lane /Mowbray Hill crossroads.

In support of this effort we are collecting as evidence accident data  which would otherwise be incomplete.

The advice there is

 You do not need to report a collision to the police where:

·         no one was injured, and

·         you exchanged details with the other driver or property owner, and

·         no driving offence took place

In all other cases, you must report a collision.

What isn’t clear is that if the first 3 criteria are met, you will not be able to report the incident using this system.

Furthermore, it is the local authority, West Berks Council’s responsibility to set speed limits. As far as we have been able to ascertain, West Berks do not collect accident data themselves but rely on police data which we have said, is incomplete.

Therefore we wish to collect accident data where  there has been no obvious police involvement. To that end  if you see an accident or its aftermath in the Parish please email the clerk@wokefieldparishcouncil.gov.uk with as much (or little) information as possible. What will be useful will be;

·         Date and Time

·         Location

·         Number of Vehicles

·         What happened

·         Anyone Injured

·         Which emergency services were in attendance

·         Any photos
